The Existential Vapour and the Sedimentary Dream
Nimbus was not just any cloud. He was a cloud with ambition, and a very pronounced disdain for the concept of 'just floating there.' "It's dreadfully inefficient," he'd grumble to the other, less-opinionated cirrus wisps. "And frankly, rather lacking in structural integrity." His life-long dream, much to the exasperation of his therapist, Sir Reginald Fluffington III (a pigeon whose doctorate was, suspiciously, from a bird bath), was to become a rock. "Not just any rock, Reginald," Nimbus would puff, expanding slightly with indignation. "A *sedimentary* rock. A conglomerate, ideally. The sheer gravitas! The layers of history! The satisfying thud!"
Sir Reginald, mid-peck at a particularly stubborn crumb, sighed. "Nimbus, old chap, you're made of water vapour. And occasionally, a surprising amount of existential dread. Rocks, by their very nature, tend not to, you know, drift."
Undeterred, Nimbus decided on a radical career shift. He tried to 'sediment' himself by attempting to roll down Mount Everest, which mostly resulted in him spreading into an even more diffuse, and significantly chillier, state of annoyance. Next, he attempted 'crystallization' by freezing himself solid, which merely initiated a localized, yet surprisingly dramatic, hailstorm over a bewildered alpaca farm.
"This is not working, Reginald!" Nimbus bellowed, now a rather grumpy cumulonimbus. "I've achieved nothing but mild atmospheric disturbance and a few bruised alpacas!"
Sir Reginald, preening a feather, offered, "Perhaps, Nimbus, your true calling isn't in being what you're not, but being the *best* version of what you are."
Nimbus considered this, then brightened. "You mean... a promotion?"
"Something like that," Reginald chirped, secretly wondering if his fee covered therapy for meteorological megalomania.
"Excellent!" Nimbus declared, instantly morphing into an impressive, thunder-rattling form. "Then I shall be Chief Nimbus of Cumulonimbus Affairs! And my first decree shall be to demand a stricter dress code for all cirrus formations. Wispy is *not* a look, people!" And with a final, dramatic rumble, he floated off, leaving Sir Reginald to ponder the true cost of avian psychological services.
