The Existential Breakfast of Evelyn Pumpernickel
Evelyn Pumpernickel’s Tuesday began much like any other, which is to say, with a profound internal debate about whether to wear the sensible beige cardigan or the slightly less sensible but far more flattering moss-green one. However, this Tuesday, the debate was rudely interrupted by her toaster.
"Another day, another crumbly delusion," sighed the toaster, a vintage chrome model named 'Toast-a-Lot'. "Honestly, Evelyn, do you truly believe that buttering bread brings you closer to cosmic enlightenment?"
Evelyn, mid-cardigan-contemplation, blinked. "Toast-a-Lot? Did you just... existentialize my breakfast?"
"Someone has to," a wilting fern on the windowsill interjected, its fronds quivering with disdain. "She still thinks 'avocado toast' is a personality trait. Pathetic." This was Ferdinand, her notoriously cynical houseplant.
Suddenly, the kettle began to whistle, but instead of steam, it emitted a perfectly harmonized barbershop quartet rendition of "Bohemian Rhapsody."
Evelyn, now holding both cardigans like shields, surveyed her kitchen. "Right. So, the toaster's an armchair philosopher, the fern's a bitter critic, and the kettle's... a performance artist?"
Toast-a-Lot popped up a perfectly golden slice. "Don't forget the spoon, Evelyn. It's been quietly judging your life choices since Tuesday." The spoon, which had been resting innocently in a sugar bowl, vibrated slightly, humming with silent, profound disapproval.
