The Cereal Cascade of Cataclysm
Barry, a man whose life was a series of well-intentioned blunders, faced his Everest: the top shelf. Specifically, a box of "Wholesome Wheat Waffles" that promised a day of balanced energy, provided you could actually *reach* them. He dragged a rickety stool, its three good legs and one 'enthusiastic' leg creaking in protest. A careful ascent. A stretch. A tentative grasp.
That's when the stool decided its enthusiasm was better expressed horizontally. Barry lurched, his hand flailing for purchase, finding only the edge of the shelf. With a groan of splintering wood and a muffled "Oops," the shelf gave way. Not just the cereal, mind you. Oh no. The gravity gods demanded tribute.
First, an avalanche of Wholesome Wheat Waffles. Then, a delicate rain of artisan pasta, followed by a torrent of dried beans. A glass jar of pickles, defying the laws of physics, somersaulted twice before exploding on the linoleum in a briny, shrapnel-laced symphony. Barry, now clinging to the cupboard door handle, watched in slow-motion horror as the entire contents of his pantry decided to stage an impromptu performance of "Ode to Chaos."
He eventually lost his grip, landing squarely on a pillow of flour and a scattering of crushed tortilla chips. His dog, Rex, mistook the chaos for a party, barking ecstatically and attempting to "rescue" a rogue meatball that had somehow escaped the fridge and joined the fray. The cat, Mittens, surveyed the scene from atop the refrigerator, tail swishing slowly, clearly judging Barry's life choices.
Barry lay there, a modern-art installation of flour, pasta, and pickle juice, listening to Rex's joyful barks and Mittens' silent condemnation. "Well," he muttered, pulling a rogue lentil from his eyebrow, "at least I didn't get the Wholesome Wheat Waffles."
